I am so excited to share the first of the promised surprises with you finally! (The other has to wait until the end of the week.) But you’ll like this one:
Amelia is a mommy! And she’s a very good one (in her first few hours anyway) as well. Three little munchkins this afternoon, all weighing what newborn kittens should weigh, and all well in control of their voices when they want mom and nursing. Amelia was fairly distressed and screamed loud enough to be heard through the whole house on the first kitten, but number 2 and 3 were no problem at all, and everyone is resting comfortably.
I’m planning to give all the kittens names of berries – someone is going to be named Sugarberry. So if you have favorite berry names add them to the comments.
Amelia got almost 100% well before these little ones were born, which is good. She still has an issue with the left eye and it may or may not require surgical intervention when she is spayed. Manageable for the time being. The vet will check it out in a a month or two, and we’ll see what more is needed then.
In the meantime, I will be glad to sleep through the night and not get up every few hours to check on Amelia. The nice thing about newborn kittens who have a momma is that momma’s really all they need for the first couple weeks. A warm place to eat and sleep, a momma cat to feed, and that’s all they need for now.
Welcome to the world little ones! It was an honor to be your midwife.
