book jacket

Some years ago, I wrote my eighth book, All God’s Creature: The Blessing of Animal Companions, not realizing that it would take my life in a while new direction.  Since then I have made caring for animals (pets) my life’s work as well as my home life. My husband and I ran a pet sitting business for 15 years, and are semi-retired from that, still doing some pet sitting, but much less!  We also foster kittens and sometimes dogs for a local rescue. In my blog I will take some time to reflect on living with three cats and two dogs, the animals who have filled my life and crossed the Rainbow Bridge already, the volunteer work I do with rescue, and the pets I pet sit for. I hope you enjoy the blog!

  1. Good evening! I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Your blog is inspiring and I enjoy reading. Thank you for sharing! Details about the Versatile Blogger Award can be found on my blog.

    1. Colleen, can you tell me how to include links to the blogs I nomimate? I am not sure how that is done, and would like to be able to do that if I can! Thanks so much,

      Debra (Derrycats)

      1. What I did with my post was I typed the blog names into my post then highlighted each individual name, clicked on the little link button in the editor heading of the “write post” screen, then copy and pasted the link of the blog in the box that popped up. I hope that made sense. If you’re still having difficulty, email me at I can send you a screenshot with notes. 🙂

    1. Colleen, one techie question…how do I post the picture of the super-sweet-blogging award and the rules on my own blog?? In case you haven’t guessed, I better at caring for animals than I am with techie things on the computer.

  2. LOL No worries!
This is the link for the Award:
This is the link for the Rules:
When you post a new post, insert an image by clicking the “Add Media” button at the top of the area where you type (its all the way to the left). Instead of uploading an image, click the “Insert from URL” button on the left side. Paste the link where it asks for the web address at the top, and then align your image to the position you would like to display it. Click “Insert” and the image will load on your post. 🙂
Alternately, you can right-click each of the images and then upload through the “add media” button directly to your account. When each image uploads you will have the option of aligning the image to the left, center, or right side.
I hope this helps and don’t hesitate to ask for more info if you need it! 🙂

And you’re very welcome! I sincerely enjoy reading your blog!!!

    1. Oops…just realized you were on my “about” page, so I know which book!! Thank again…always nice to hear that someone reads what we write in solitude.

      1. I am a pretty inconsistent blogger and add a little PROcrastination it adds up to not much posting. I will be working on getting better at getting a post up. First we will have to dig out so I can click some pictures.. 🙂

  3. Thank you for following my blog; have enjoyed your posts and photos so far. Will be back to see more!

  4. Hello there! First off, thank you for the like on my Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned photo. I’m so glad you dropped by, or else I probably would’ve never found this wonderful blog of yours! I adore cats. They’re such lovely creatures – just by looking at them, puts a smile on my face – every time! Thanks for sharing your furry families (Thomas is so handsome!). I’m looking forward to hear, and see more of them after this 🙂

  5. I just finished your book and I enjoyed it. It was different than I expected but it should be required reading for people adopting. I loved the spirituality and the covenant with animals you describe. I feel much the same as you do about them. In our home they are members of the family and we do what we need to do even if it requires extra work.

    1. Thanks so much, Kate. That concept of covenant is very important, I think…at least to me. The lives of animals would be much improved if we all recognized that we live in covenant with them – the frogs included!! Hope your froggies are going well.

  6. Hi Debra: We (Ray and I) have been advised that you are our latest Follower. Thank you so much. Ray was a stray with a lot of personal baggage. I was not a stray with no experience of dogs except for a bite a long time ago! He wanted to be friends and pretty much adopted himself into our family. I hope you enjoy reading about him as much as I enjoy writing about him.:)
